Retired NBA star Dwyane Wade and actress Gabrielle Union have always been vocal about social justice issues and advocating for marginalised communities. Their appearance at the 2023 Met Gala was no exception.

Studies show from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Trans People are at a higher risk of suicide than the general population. Suicide attempt rate at an astounding 41% compared to 4.6% for the overall population.

The statement was a direct call to action for society to do more to protect and support Trans People.
